Samsung tests the water with first Tizen smartphone

Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Z, the first commercially available smartphone powered by the Tizen platform.
On show this week the Tizen Developer Conference in San Francisco, the tech giant says the Tizen platform delivers a "fast, optimal performance with improved memory management."
"Samsung is committed to enhancing the mobile experience of consumers with innovation that is both personal and unique to their needs," says DJ Lee, President and Head of Global Sales & Marketing Office, Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.
“The Samsung Z integrates the power and adaptability of the Tizen platform, enabling users to browse the web faster and utilize applications more effectively.”
Tizen is an open and flexible operating system built from the ground up to address the needs of all stakeholders of the mobile and connected device ecosystem, including device manufacturers, mobile operators, application developers and independent software vendors (ISVs).
Developed by a community of developers, under open source governance, the software is open to all members who wish to participate and is widely seen as an alternative to Android for the South Korean company.
The Samsung Z will be available in Q3 in Russia and is planned to expand to other markets. Users will be offered to access additional applications through the Tizen Store at the launch of the device.
