Sorry, something went wrong…with Facebook
Thu, 20th Jun 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

We all remember where we were when the All Blacks won the World Cup, or even when Apple released the first iPhone.

And no doubt we will all remember too, the events of yesterday, when Facebook crashed.

Suffering an "internal issue", the social networking site hit the skids last night - posting the infamous "Sorry, something went wrong" message to baffled users.

Website monitors DownRightNow and DownForEveryoneOrJustMe reported the outage, but according to an official statement, the site is back up and working.

"Earlier today, an internal issue in our Web infrastructure caused the site to be slow or unavailable for a brief period of time," Facebook said.

"We resolved the issue quickly, and should now be back to 100 percent.

"We apologise for any inconvenience."

Yet the outage caused mass hysteria among users, with many taking to Twitter to vent their disbelief.

"The end is near, Facebook is down," tweeted Jonas Peterson.

"Did Facebook just go down again? I can't handle this emotional rollercoaster!", tweeted Text Publishing.

Taking it to the extreme, Emilie posted: "When #Facebook is down, I lose my will to live. All I can do is stare at the ceiling, helpless."

Hmm, a bit over the top wouldn't you say?

Keeping the news in perspective however, Nina L. Diamond did display some form of normality, tweeting: "While Facebook is down, all you're missing is that a friend you haven't seen since 3rd grade posted a new photo of her kids."

How very true.
