TEDxYouth comes to Auckland
Schools are being asked to nominate inspirational young people to present at the TEDxYouth event to be held at Auckland Museum in October.
With an overarching theme of ‘venturing into an unknown world’ the event ties into the themes of the museum’s Moana – My Ocean exhibition.
Auckland Museum eLearning producer Nils Pokel is developing the programme for the TEDxYouth Auckland half-day conference in October and says the search has begun for youth speakers with great stories to share.
“There is such incredible content on the TEDx platform and this event is a chance to introduce New Zealand youth to the platform and see where they take it,” he says.
“This is a chance for Kiwi kids to get global exposure and access to other great minds and then who knows where it will take them or who it will bring them together with.”
The event has been deliberately scheduled around the school term to allow both teachers and students to be involved.
TEDxAuckland organiser Elliot Blade says the decision to work with Auckland Museum was an easy one given the similar ethos of the two teams.
“Having the TEDxYouth Auckland event will make the TEDx experience in Auckland that much more complete. It’s really not about prescribing what it will be for the youth – we want the youth to take charge of this platform and make it their own.”
Teachers and students can find out more information about the event and make speaker suggestions through the TEDxYouthAuckland website www.tedxyouthauckland.com.
Schools wanting to give their students an opportunity to talk at TEDxYouth Auckland can also sign on for the museum's e-learning programme as the top presentations will be considered for a speaker session at the event in October. See www.aucklandmuseum.com/1743/#eLearning_howTo for further details.
