Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) for PS2
GC were lucky enough to get a hands-on sneak peek at the up and coming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles title for the PS2, and boy does it look like fun in a half shell! The cute yet feisty little green guys were huge back in the day, when the overly popular 'Cowabunga!' catch phrase was today's equivalent of 'Pwnd!' TMNT the game is riding on the popularity of the cartoon characters as well as the movie, which is due out in April.
This game looks like a bundle of fun where your particular turtle - in this case, Leonardo, gets to jump around all sorts of environmental obstacles as you progress through the training portion of the game, before unlocking access to the next level. Created by the same genius behind the Prince of Persia franchise, the TMNT game retains the same focus of the Prince of Persia titles, where the physical abilities of your character have a direct impact on how well you progress in the game.
And just like the Prince of Persia games, you can jump, leap and fight your way around your opponents and even find yourself stuck in awkward and challenging situations. If this sounds like your idea of fun, you'll enjoy the gameplay in TMNT. The combat physics in the game rely on deft manoeuvres and quick-twitch reflexes to repel the various types of martial arts attackers you'll have to beat throughout the game.
We only managed to get a small taste of this in the training sequences but rest assured there will be plenty of action-packed combat in TMNT against all sorts of different villains. The 'tag team' dynamics of the game is another exciting feature where you'll be able to control two turtles at once and swap out your turtles with other members of the TMNT gang, all with their own unique set of acrobatic Ninja moves!
TMNT will be a great title for the kids and perhaps a trip down memory lane for the adults but either way, the TMNT are back and bad as ever! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be in stores on all platforms except PS3 and Xbox. Release date is March 23rd.
