Telecom apologises for Auckland outage

Mon, 21st Feb 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

This morning we reported that a major outage in South Auckland over the weekend had effected upwards of 5000 customers.

Without getting into numbers, Telecom told us a technical fault occurred on Sunday morning that affected broadband services “for some Telecom residential and business customers based in South Auckland.”

  • Said to be affected were areas of Mayoral drive to Papatoetoe.

“A team of technicians has been working urgently since Sunday morning to resolve this issue,” the statement continued. “Service restoration has been making steady progress with the majority of customers now back online.”

The company has apologised for the problems. "For those customers who have experienced issues with broadband and data connectivity, we regret any inconvenience this may have caused."

Telecom also said that it had not yet found the root of the problem.

“We’re currently investigating the causes of yesterday’s technical fault.”
