The games of E3 - Konami
Konami has confirmed that Silent Hill 8 is headed for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at an unspecified date in 2011. It will continue the third-person survival horror series, this time putting the player in the shoes of escaped convict Murphy Pendleton. After making his getaway from a crashed prison carrier he finds himself stuck in the pleasant township of - you guessed it - Silent Hill.
According to Konami, this game should appeal to fans of the earlier Silent Hill games. Since Silent Hill 2 is commonly held as one of the most revered survival-horror games of all time, this can only be good news.
We've already had a glimpse of this one at Microsoft's E3 press conference, but Konami went into a little more detail about Metal Gear Solid: Rising today. The game's producer, Shigenobu Matsuyama, and its director, Mineshi Kimura, took the stage and explained some of the details from the trailer shown a couple of days ago. In Rising, Raiden absorbs power from the cyborg batteries (as seen when Raiden ripped one from an enemy and then crushed it with his hand in the trailer). Not only this, but Raiden can also salvage parts, ammo and even data from the broken machines. They also explained that the player can slice whatever they like at whatever angle they like, allowing you to cut to kill or cut to immobilise your foes.
The Castlvania: Symphony of the Night re-release is one of the most popular Xbox LIVE Arcade downloads in the service's history, and Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is a new title in the same vein to the PlayStation classic. This time around, however, the game will feature a multiplayer component - either co-operative or head-to-head. Enemies can now hunt the player down from room to room (rather than being limited to one room).
A new franchise announcement from Konami came in the guise of Never Dead, a third-person action game in development by Rebellion (Aliens vs. Predator). The Devil May Cry comparisons are already beginning to roll in from E3, although the game has somewhat of a twist: the player is immortal (that is, you cannot die). Check out the following trailer to see what that means in terms of gameplay...
Def Jam: Rapstar is Konami's upcoming attempt to take the classic SingStar gameplay into the realm of rap. At this stage there's not much more to say about it than that, but here's a quick demonstration from E3.
The team that brought us Dance Dance Revolution demonstrated Dance Masters, a dance title for Xbox 360 Kinect that requires no dance mat and no controller.
