'The raid took place NOW, exactly 2 years ago…'
“The raid took place NOW, exactly 2 years ago,” tweeted Kim Dotcom this morning, remembering that ill-fated day in 2012.
The Megaupload founder, taking to social media in typical fashion, recalled the moment he was charged with “running an international organised criminal enterprise” by the US Justice Department.
At the time of the raid on Dotcom’s Kiwi mansion, US officials told the media: “For more than five years the conspiracy has operated websites that unlawfully reproduce and distribute infringing copies of copyrighted works, including movies – often before their theatrical release – music, television programs, electronic books, and business and entertainment software on a massive scale.
“The conspirators allegedly earned more than (US)$175 million in illegal profits through advertising revenue and selling premium memberships.”
In remembrance of the raid, Dotcom posted links to a YouTube video of the footage, saying of the clip: “Helicopters, Assault Rifles, Anti-Terrorism units, Attack Dogs & 72 cops terrorising a zero-threat family.”
