The Warehouse goes digital with free in-store Wi-Fi

Fri, 9th May 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Next week The Warehouse celebrates 32 years of operation and its growth from a single discount store in Auckland’s Wairau Road, Glenfield to a host of stores nationwide.

To mark the occasion, the New Zealand retail giant has revealed a network of 91 Wi-fi enabled stores nationwide, offering Kiwis free in-store Wi-Fi.

Today's announcement sees the completion of the in store Wi-fi roll out, another tool to help customers shop ‘anywhere, any way’ as the Red Sheds forge ahead in the digital space to ensure the business stays just as relevant, innovative and competitive as when Sir Stephen Tindall opened the first store in 1982.

“One of Sir Stephen Tindall’s visions for The Warehouse is to be a sustainable profitable 100 year company and this is a vision that we strongly embrace today, which is why the Red Sheds’ birthday is an important milestone to remind us how far we have come and where we strive to be," says Simon Turner, CEO, The Warehouse.

“With the significant investment in training, development and remuneration of our team members, we are seeing increases in transaction growth and basket size, resulting in 13 consecutive quarters of same store sales growth for the Red Sheds."

Turner says the company's focus remains around continuous improvement to products and prices and a significant store modernisation programme, designed to lure Kiwis off the streets and into stores.

“Furthermore, our digital transformation, including the recent launch of the innovative free ‘Your Warehouse’ app and the Wi-fi roll out are just two examples of how we are challenging ourselves to offer customers the optimum shopping experience," Turner adds.

“We hope that during our two week birthday celebration, Kiwis who might not have been into our store for a while will come back for a visit, take a fresh look and nab a great bargain while they’re here.”
