The long-awaited 1.4 update for the TomTom iPhone app is now available to download from the App Store for free.

As previously reported, new features include support for multi-tasking (only on iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd Generation devices, running iOS 4) and turn-by-turn guidance at the same time as operating other apps. The free update will also include the latest GeoSmart map of New Zealand.

TomTom had to wait for Apple to release its iOS 4 operating system before releasing the app.

Chris Kearney, Marketing Manager, TomTom Australia & New Zealand, said, “We’re pleased to introduce the latest version of the TomTom app for iPhone upon the release of iOS 4.  Now iPhone users can benefit from TomTom's navigation, and with its new multi-tasking functionality, can also take advantage of other great iPhone features while they continue to receive uninterrupted guidance from the TomTom app."

The TomTom app will set you back NZD $94.99.
