FYI, this story is more than a year old

Vodafone and Research In Motion (RIM) have launched the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, which is dubbed the smallest BlackBerry yet, across New Zealand.

“BlackBerry Pearl smartphones have always been popular in New Zealand with both consumers and business customers, and we are very excited to deliver the new, enhanced BlackBerry Pearl 3G to the local market,” said Adele Beachley, Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand, Research In Motion.

“Considering the fast growing consumer interest in smartphones, we think the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G addresses a substantial market opportunity in New Zealand. It allows customers to upgrade their traditional mobile phone to a full-featured 3G BlackBerry smartphone that supports BlackBerry Messenger and many other apps, while also providing a design that looks stunning and feels very familiar and comfortable,” Beachley added.

The Pearl 3G is less than 50 mm wide and weighs 93grams. It supports 3G, wi-fi and GPS technologies. There’s also a 3.2 MP camera with flash and a capacity for up to 32GB via a microSD/SDHC memory card.

The BlackBerry 3G Pearl is on sale for $799 with a Vodafone On Account plan. It will also be available for $349 on Vodafone’s Smart 2 plan with a $10 BlackBerry add-on ($70 per month).
