FYI, this story is more than a year old

Microsoft is accepting orders for Windows 8 with a scheduled delivery date of October 26 confirmed.

The software developer says the opportunity to upgrade to the latest version of the computer operating system is now available.

After releasing the system to manufacturers earlier this month, Microsoft says owners of a personal computer running preview versions can upgrade from US$14.99 to $39.99.

The deal is offered to PC owners who have purchased a Windows 7 powered machine since June 2, with a higher price offered to other users.

Microsoft revealed early access to its Windows 8 operating system on August 15 after two years of development, with the chance to upgrade at these prices expiring January 31, 2013.
