Apple ordered to pay $US625 million

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple will challenge a jury verdict that ordered it to pay $US625 million to Mirror Worlds for infringing patents.

The trial centres on the Spotlight, Time Machine and Cover Flow features in Apple’s Mac operating systems.

Mirror Worlds sued Apple in 2008 saying that iPod, iPhone and Macs infringed its patents for the way documents are displayed digitally.

Cover Flow lets you scroll through album covers, documents, pictures and other material stored in a computer, while Spotlight searches the computer’s hard drive and Time Machine automatically saves copies of files.

Apple asked the US District Judge for an emergency stay of the verdict, saying there are outstanding issues on two of the three patents.
