Apple to release iPad mini?
Apple will release a mini iPad in October, according to internet media reports over the weekend.
AllThingsD has reported the world’s most valuable company will launch a 7-inch iPad in under two months, the second of the company’s two expected announcements.
While not confirming to the press, Apple is expected to launch the next generation iPhone on September 12 and will follow with the release of the smaller iPad in October.
Reports suggest the smaller version is expected to have a 7.85-inch display and offer a cheap alternative to the current iPad model.
Company emails revealed during the Apple v Samsung patent infringement trial back up internet claims, with collaboration over the product dating as far back as early 2011.
“I believe there will be a 7-inch market and we should do one,” said Eddy Cue, Apple senior vice president of Internet Software and Services in an email to CEO Tim Cook on January 24, 2011.
“I expressed this to Steve [Jobs] several times since Thanksgiving and he seemed very receptive the last time.
“I found email, books, Facebook, and video very compelling on a 7-inch. Web browsing is definitely the weakest point, but still usable.”
Apple remains unavailable for comment.
