Bad Company 2 Onslaught Mode inbound for PC
DICE has now confirmed to PC Gamer that the Onslaught downloadable game type for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - previously limited to the console versions of the game only - will eventually make its way to PC.
Onslaught mode - a variant of the popular Gears of War 2 Horde-style mode - requires teams of up to four players to capture flags around one of four maps while eliminating waves of AI-controlled enemy soldiers.
Previously, DICE claimed that the PC version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2's reliance on dedicated servers for its multiplayer component was to blame for Onslaught mode's initial no-show on that platform. In the official Bad Company 2 PC forum, associate producer Barrie Tingle provided the following explanation:
"The problem we have on PC is that all our servers are dedicated with providers. Changing a server from Conquest 32 players to Onslaught 4 players cuts out 28 player slots from the total ammount available. This could have a dramatic affect on the PC online environment if enough servers changed to Onslaught," wrote Tingle. "We aren't ruling out Onslaught on PC but at this time we are researching how to bring it to PC without affecting players who don't have Onslaught or their own server to run it on."
Well, it turns out that DICE must have figured something out, although the PC Gamer report reveals no details as to what the workaround entails. Also, a release date and price tag (the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions cost 800 MS Points and $14 respectively) is yet to be revealed.
