Big names join forces to fight Apple trademark

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Microsoft and Nokia are two of the big names leading a challenge to Apple's 'App Store' and "Appstore' trademark in Europe.

According to cnet, the filings - which were jointly made with HTC and Sony Ericsson - follow a similar action by Amazon which opposes Apple's trademark in the European market.

"'App Store', like 'toy store' or 'book store', is a generic term that should continue to be available for everyone to use for stores that sell apps," said a Microsoft representative in a statement.

Microsoft has also filed motions in the US against the 'App Store' trademark.
