Binance celebrates Bitcoin Pizza Day with giveaway
Binance has announced an extensive global campaign to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day, a day that commemorates the first real-world commercial Bitcoin transaction. To mark the occasion, Binance will distribute over 5,000 pizzas across more than 20 countries, aiming to engage both crypto enthusiasts and the broader public.
Bitcoin Pizza Day dates back to 2010, when programmer Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two pizzas for 10,000 bitcoins, a transaction that, at today's value, equates to nearly AUD $1 billion. This year, from 17 May to 22 May, Binance will host a range of events globally, including in-person pizza parties, deliveries via custom Binance-branded pizza vans, and notable crypto community members participating in pizza deliveries using Binance scooters. These initiatives are designed to bring the celebration directly to the doors of users worldwide.
In Australia, Binance collaborates with Web3 creative agency Take3 and the Australian DeFi Association to host an event at DOC Pizza in Surrey Hills, Sydney. This celebration will bring the crypto community together and provide an opportunity for attendees to interact, share experiences, and celebrate this milestone in cryptocurrency history.
Rachel Conlan, Binance's Chief Marketing Officer, highlighted the importance of Bitcoin Pizza Day, particularly in a year when the trading community is deeply immersed in their screens and financial charts. "Understanding the demands on our users and traders is paramount to us, so that's why, knowing how busy they are, we aim to bring the celebration right to their doorstep," Ms Conlan stated. "Through initiatives like this, we're not only celebrating the real-world utility of cryptocurrency but also catering to the needs of our busy trading community."
The Bitcoin Pizza Day activities will extend to 20 countries across five continents, including Asia, Africa, South America, Europe, and Australia. The events will reach traders even at their work desks, ensuring that all members of the community can participate in some form.
Attendees of the in-person events will also have the chance to win exclusive Binance merchandise through a series of entertaining games and challenges. Activities such as the Binance Topping Toss, Token Twister, and The BTD (Buy The Dip) Limbo Bar will allow participants to unlock various prizes based on the number of events they complete. These interactive components add a fun and competitive element to the celebrations, fostering engagement and camaraderie among participants.
Binance's campaign for Bitcoin Pizza Day underscores the company's commitment to education and engagement within the crypto community. It offers an innovative way to combine a historical moment in cryptocurrency with present-day community building. By bringing together users from diverse locations worldwide, Binance continues to strengthen its presence and foster a sense of unity within the global crypto community.
