FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apart from the new day and the release of some date-aligned movies, New Zealanders don't get many things first. This new public transit tracking feature from mobile Google Maps is no different - but judging by the ever-faster global roll-out schedule for these types of things, it won't be far off.

Lucky residents in Boston, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Madrid and Turin won't have to wait though. Now, with live transit updates on Google maps, they'll know if their bus or train is late and if so, by how much.

While we sit back and wait for this super-useful feature to roll-out this side of the equator, we can fill up the time we still spend waiting for late buses wondering why it took anyone so long to think of it.
