FYI, this story is more than a year old

Dell confirmed that its tablet is planned to launch next month in Europe, to be followed by a US launch later this year.

The tablet, previously known as the Mini 5, will officially be called the Streak. Dell CEO Michael Dell confirmed the Streak’s launch at the Citrix Synergy conference last week.

Featuring a 5-inch display and a 5-megapixel camera, the device will run on the Android OS. Unlike most other tablet concepts, the Steak is a mobile phone and tablet hybrid, as the device will be enabled with a SIM, allowing it voice-calling capabilities.

The company is positioning the device as a “voice-enabled tablet” rather than qualifying it as an upsized smartphone.

Like many other companies, Dell rushed to latch onto the tablet market after the iPad reveal earlier this year. But some companies aren’t quite as eager to enter the tablet market, with Sony approaching the market by waiting to see if there’s enough tablet demand for all the major players.
