Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is beautiful on PS4
Square Enix decided to port Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on the PS4, and it's still a very gorgeous game to look at. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster was originally released back in 2014 for the PS3 and PS Vita consoles. The collection includes both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 which were both PS2 games. A lot of people consider Final Fantasy X one of the best in the entire series. Many people were excited that it was getting ported to the HD generation. Square Enix also added Final Fantasy X-2 as an extra bonus. Because of how well Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster did on PS3/PS Vita, Square Enix has now ported the game onto the PS4. Does this PS4 version offer anything new? First off, the PS4 version is the prettiest iteration of the game to date. The visuals are slightly brighter and smoother than the PS3/PS Vita versions, although the graphics are not too different to one another. Only people with large TVs wil notice a big difference with the visuals.
If you haven't played this game before, you'll love the graphics here. Even though this game was originally on PS2, it's still has one of the prettiest looking levels I have ever seen in a video game before.
Prancing around the peaceful sandy shores of Besaid Island always puts a smile on my face. I also like the majestic glow of the Macalania Forest. If you have ever seen Avatar, you'll love the levels that are in this game as they are just gorgeous and beautiful like that movie was. The PS3/PS Vita versions of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster were slightly controversial because it featured "remastered music" for some songs. The music was changed to make it sound more modern so to speak. Players weren't able to change back to the original music either.
For the PS4 version, you now have the option to listen to both the original or remastered music. A lot of old school fans that played the PS2 versions are sure to choose the original music. In my opinion, some of the "remastered" music sounds a little off. Gameplay wise, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster offers hours and hours of fun. It took me 60 hours to complete the main story of Final Fantasy X. Final Fantasy X-2 on the other hand took around 40 hours for me to complete. This collection offers over 100 hours of gameplay, and that's only me completing the main stories. I've yet to do all of the side quests. Not to mention Final Fantasy X-2 has multiple endings for you to earn. This collection also adds new modes that weren't featured in the original PS2 versions too. The only bad thing I can say about this collection is that it may not appeal to new-school gamers. Both games feature the traditional turn-based style of combat. This is unlike in modern RPGs where you can actively control the main character during combat. Another thing that may irk new-school gamers is that both games feature "random battles" too. This means enemy encounters randomly occur when you are walking around the levels. I always preferred seeing the enemies on the field before you engage them in battle . Aside from that, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for the PS4 is a must have if you are a fan of RPGs. They are still one of my favourite PS2 games of all time. If you already got the collection last year on PS3/PS Vita, you don't have to buy it again on PS4. The only reason you may want the PS4 version is to listen to the original music and look at prettier graphics. Verdict: 9.0/10
