Many PS5 owners may already know the Astro Bot character because they may have seen him already in the free-to-play Astro's Playroom demo. The character later appeared in a PS VR 2 game a few years after that too.

Well, some gamers will already know that Astro Bot will now be starring in his own new video game simply called Astro Bot coming out later this year. This is a fully-fledged PS5 video game that will have over 80 levels of fun.

Techday NZ was lucky enough to have a hands-on preview of the game and we're proud to say the game is looking very fun. The game aims to be fun for everyone, although there are some optional levels included here for the hardcore gamer too!

The object of the game is very simple because Mr. Astro Bot will need to go through each level collecting puzzle pieces and rescuing his fellow Astro Bot friends that are lost. The levels are linear most of the time during this preview build, although there are lots of gameplay mechanics to learn to prevent the game from being too repetitive.

What I like most about Astro Bot so far is that he has specific new abilities that he can attain at each level to help him. For example, in the first level, Astro Bot could blow himself up to become a floating air balloon to get to higher areas.

The second ability is a jetpack dog that allows you to travel fast horizontally. This is a useful ability that allows you to jump further and longer. Lastly, the final demo ability is some cool boxing gloves that allow Astro Bot to punch the heck out of his enemies!

If you get through enough levels, you will unlock a boss fight. The boss fight in the demo was with a giant red octopus. Surprisingly, the boss fight was quite lengthy, but you had to use the boxing gloves to punch the Octopus and lower its life. The fight was really fun plus it took place on the beautiful ocean waters.

After the boss fight, I was able to play through the two optional hard levels. These levels make sure you need to use your jumping skills to full effect. The first hard level was quite difficult because the enemies kept swiping me, but I got through the second one quite quickly.

Overall, I played the demo for approximately 40 minutes and this is just a small sample of the full game. The fact that the full game features around 80 levels means there will be hours of fun for people to play once it releases on PS5 this September 6th. We will have a full review of this game later this year. Thanks again to PlayStation NZ for the demo invite.
