Metal Gear creator confirms Metal Gear Solid 5

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Hideo Kojima has a lot in common with his iconic character, Solid Snake. He is a man of mystery. He has been Konami’s greatest asset for years. And, like Snake, Kojima seems to be eternally tied to the Metal Gear franchise.

After the huge success of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Konami has officially announced the first details surrounding Metal Gear Solid 5 via Kojima himself.

In a widely reported interview with France’s IG Magazine, Kojima says that the long-awaited next instalment will run on Konami’s own in-house Fox Engine.

An interesting twist is that the game may feature conversation trees in an effort to further the narrative and add a new facet to the game’s characters.

"I loved the idea of social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution that we’ve seen,” Kojima told IG.

"If I say more about it the ninja PR woman behind the door will chop me into pieces, so it’s better that we meet again when the time comes to talk about Metal Gear Solid 5.”

Solid Snake has come so close to dying in previous games in the series that many have wondered if he is in fact an invulnerable demi-god (by many I mean just me), but Kojima has made it no secret that he’s wanted to kill Snake off for a long time.

"We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots,” says Kojima.

Further information is thin on the ground, but Kojima hints that the game will be oriented towards ‘infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to do you a favour’.
