Microsoft debunks 'Office for iPad' rumour

Wed, 22nd Feb 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

A report that a project bringing Microsoft’s Office suite to the iPad has ‘wrapped up’ and could be released ‘in the coming weeks’ has been dismissed by Microsoft as ‘based on inaccurate rumours and speculation’.

The original report, published overnight by The Daily, includes a picture purporting to show Office running on an iPad, and even describes a hands-on with the prototype software, running Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The report says the app is still to be submitted to Apple for approval.

However, a Microsoft spokesperson has since issued a statement to the New York Times’ Bits blog saying, "The Daily story is based on inaccurate rumours and speculation. We have no further comment.”

Microsoft released Office note-taking tool OneNote for both iPhone and iPad last year, prompting speculation more apps from the suite would be released at a later date.
