Netflix confirms NZ pricing ahead of tomorrow's kiwi launch
Netflix has confirmed pricing for its kiwi offering, which kicks off tomorrow, pricing starts at $9.99 for a single stream standard definition plan. That pricing puts Netflix cheaper than other local competitors, including Sky TV's Neon and Spark's Lightbox. Spark broadband customers however receive a free 12-month subscription to Lightbox.
A two-stream high-definition plan costs $12.99 while a four-stream 4K ultra-high definition 'family' plan will set you back $15.99. The service launches locally tomorrow and will include a variety of programming including Netflix original series, stand-up comedy specials and documentaries. Series one and two of Netflix's Orange is the New Black, will also be available tomorrow with series three premiering exclusively on Netflix in June. The service will provide a 'subset' of the content available in the United States. Today's announcement confirmed that subset will include Bloodline, starring Ben Mendelsohn, Sissy Spacek and Kyle Chandler; Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt; Chelsea Handler: Uganda Be Kidding Me Live; Aussie comedian Jim Jefferies: Bare; DreamWorks Animation's The Adventures of Puss in Boots; and the Academy Award-nominated documentary Virunga, among others. Marvel's Daredevil; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny; and the comedy series Grace and Frankie will run exclusively on Netflix in the coming months. Netflix also confirmed the service will be available for streaming via a range if devices including Apple TV and iOS, Google Chromecast and windows and Android tablets and smartphones. Access will also be available via game consoles including Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and Nintendo's Wii U.
