Rockstars: Rock to 'Stock has announced a Battle of the Bands event scheduled for February 3rd at Wellington's legendary San Francisco Bath House. But this Battle of the Bands has a difference: rather than wielding real instruments, participants will compete at the rhythm-based video game Rock Band.

Competing teams can choose their band's setlist from a library of over 300 songs, and they'll even get to hang out in the "Green Room" before they take the stage. This could be as close to the life of a rock star as any of us are likely to get!

There are tonnes of prizes on the night, such as those for the "most rockin' band" and the "best rock outfit". The prizes range from $300 worth of broadband and calls from Orcon, two USB T-sticks with SIM cards from Telecom, copies of DC Universe Online and SingStar courtesy of Sony Computer Entertainment, music packs from MusicHype and beer from Yeastie Boys.

Proceeds from the event will help some deserving individuals to attend the popular Webstock conference.
