PlayStation Suite delivers PlayStation to Android devices
While the internet is abuzz with news of Sony's monster Next Generation Portable (NGP) announcement, the PlayStation Suite (also announced last night in Tokyo), which enables Android devices to run PlayStation content, has fallen to the wayside somewhat. Here is everything we know about the service to date:
According to a press release from Sony Computer, the PlayStation Suite is a response to the fact that "the number of users who enjoy games casually on a variety of devices, including mobile phones, smartphones and tablet PCs, has been increasing significantly. By offering 'PlayStation quality" content to this rapidly growing market, SCE will not only deliver the PlayStation experience to a wider base of users around the globe, but will also be able to offer game developers and publishers the potential to further expand their business opportunities to these services".
Sony will implement a "PlayStation Certified" licensing programme for hardware manufacturers, which will provide a number of support services to potential developers "to ensure the delivery of PlayStation quality experience across various devices".
PlayStation Suite content should be available "this calendar year", starting with titles from the original PlayStation (PS One Classics). The PlayStation Store will also become accessible via Android devices. And, of course, this will all be available on the newly announced NGP.
