According to 1up.com, the domain www.wipeout2048.com was registered last month, which has re-invigorated speculation that another entry in the popular Wipeout futuristic racing series is in the works.

Previously, the domain www.wipeouttrinity.com was also registered back in November last year. It's not unknown in this industry for developers and publishers to register multiple domains for a property purely to throw observers off the trail. The Wipeout series has long been synonymous with the PlayStation brand, the first in the series a launch title for the original PlayStation. However, it's been close to three years since Wipeout HD, a download-only title that marks the last entry in the series.
