Super Mario Bros. celebrates 25th anniversary
Mon, 13th Sep 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

It's been 25 years to the day since Super Mario Bros. first set the world on fire after launching in Japan on the Famicom game console (the Japanese equivalent of the Nintendo Entertainment System). In celebration, Nintendo has launched a special 25th anniversary website that contains gameplay footage of every Mario game released since Super Mario Bros. in 1985 - which has gone on to sell more than 40 million units - right through to this year's Super Mario Galaxy 2.

“Stimulated by advancements in technologies, we have always enjoyed developing the Super Mario Bros. series,” said Nintendo designer and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. “The Super Mario Bros. series has always taken advantage of the latest technologies and is the fruit of the creativity of a number of my hard-working friends working as a team.” Nintendo has also launched a competition encouraging fans to share their Mario moments, with a bunch of Nintendo DSi XLs (in the new yellow, blue and red colour schemes) and copies of New Super Mario Bros. up for grabs!
