FYI, this story is more than a year old

Toshiba has unveiled a unique entry into the ultrabook market, the Satellite U840W, with a screen that boasts a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio despite only measuring 14.4 inches diagonally.

The extra width means that as well as being able to watch most films of the last 100 years in close to full screen, users can also view videos in more narrow TV formats with other applications like email or social networks running alongside.

Toshiba NZ product marketing manager Justin White says business users can even take advantage of the wide screen for split-screen work, making the U840W ‘an incredible productivity tool as well as the ultimate entertainment notebook'.

"We wanted to take a bold step in the ultrabook market,” White says, "with a product that responds to today's consumer needs.

"With the latest IPTV trends, people don't just want an amazing viewing experience. They want to interact with the content they watch in real time.

Priced at $2199, other specs include an intel Core i5 processor, 6GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.
