FYI, this story is more than a year old

Sony only launched its new PlayStation Vita handheld yesterday, but one exec has already indicated that Uncharted: Golden Abyss is emerging as a standout performer.

In an interview with GameSpot, Sony’s senior vice president of PlayStation brand marketing, Guy Longworth, says it’s not a huge surprise to see the Sony-exclusive franchise doing well.

"It’s been warmly received, and that really doesn’t surprise us given the popularity of that franchise with our core consumers,” Longworth says.

"It’s very early days, but Uncharted is top of the charts so far.”

Sony is also pushing Uncharted: Golden Abyss with its own marketing – check out the video below.

Some gamers expressed concern regarding the Vita after the relative crash-and-burn impact of the PlayStation Portable, released here in 2005.

However, Longworth says Sony has put in the ground work to make sure the Vita stays afloat for its intended lifespan of 5-10 years, by ensuring the 31 launch titles are not all the system has to offer.

"We’ve got an incredible lineup of first- and third-party games this year… there are currently over 100 titles in development worldwide, meaning we’re going to have compelling content right throughout the year,” says Longworth.

If you’ve picked up your PS Vita in its first hours, tell us – is it as good as it’s cracked up to be?
