Xbox LIVE Gold subscription price set to increase?
Tue, 31st Aug 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Xbox LIVE's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has announced that the price of all Xbox LIVE Gold subscription packages will increase from November 1st this year in the US, UK, Canada and Mexico.

In the US, a one-month subscription will increase by US$2 from US$7.99 to $9.99, a three-month subscription by US$5 from US$19.99 to US$24.99, and a one-year subscription by US$10 from US$49.99 to US$59.99.

Hryb insists that only certain packages in the aforementioned territories are affected.

"Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same," writes Hryb. "We're confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry."

Hryb then goes on to encourage loyal subscribers in the affected regions to lock in the current price by renewing subscriptions here before the changes take effect on November 1st. Those who do so will also receive an additional discount.

Game Console has contacted Microsoft New Zealand's PR representative to find out whether the New Zealand territory can eventually expect a subscription increase and awaits a response. Currently, a one-year subscription costs NZ$79.95. An price increase in line with that of the US would likely be to the tune of approximately NZ$15 to NZ$94.95.

Stay tuned for a response from Microsoft New Zealand. UPDATE - 11.57am: PR for Microsoft New Zealand has responded to our inquiry and says that there are no announcements pertaining to a price increase for New Zealand Xbox LIVE Gold subscriptions.
