AMD unveils new Ryzen processors for gaming & AI PCs

Yesterday

AMD has announced a series of new gaming and AI PC processors designed to enhance gaming and computing performance across various platforms.

The company's latest additions include the Ryzen 9950X3D and 9900X3D desktop processors, designed to provide higher clock speeds and better performance for gamers and content creators, using 2nd Gen AMD 3D V-Cache technology.

"Gaming has become one of the biggest forms of entertainment around the world, and with titles becoming more immersive and demanding, having the right hardware and software is critical for the best player experience," said Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD's Computing and Graphics Group. "Today's announcements underscore our commitment to providing gamers everywhere the freedom to choose their own gaming experiences without being held back by performance bottlenecks."

The Ryzen Z2 Series aims to revolutionise handheld gaming with processors that feature up to eight "Zen 5" CPU cores and RDNA 3.5 architecture-powered graphics. These processors promise to deliver desktop-level gaming experiences in portable form factors. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 9000HX Series targets mobile notebook users, delivering robust gaming performance similar to desktop-level systems by leveraging second-generation 3D V-Cache technology.

AMD is also advancing its foray into AI PC architecture with the Ryzen AI Max Series processors. These processors promise desktop-equivalent performance in ultra-portable devices through their integration of up to 16 "Zen 5" CPU cores, 40 RDNA 3.5 graphics compute units, and an XDNA2 Neural Processing Unit. Meanwhile, the AI Max PRO Series focuses on empowering thin and light workstations for intensive AI-accelerated workloads.

Jack Huynh added, "The new generation of X3D processors relocates the cache memory below the core complex die (CCD), placing 'Zen 5' cores closer to the cooling solution, to deliver higher clock speeds at lower temperatures and provide better performance compared to the previous generation."

On the strategic partnership front, AMD and Dell are deepening their relationship by introducing the first commercial Dell PCs equipped with AMD Ryzen AI PRO processors. This collaboration represents a significant shift for Dell's commercial device offerings, empowering them with AMD's advanced AI capabilities.

Representatives from leading hardware brands have also expressed optimism regarding the potential unlocked by the new AMD processors. Jerry Kao, Chief Operating Officer at Acer, stated, "We are excited to expand our lineup of AMD-powered high-performance gaming systems in both notebook and handheld form factors." Similarly, Samson Hu, Co-CEO of ASUS, highlighted, "With the new ROG systems powered by the AMD Ryzen 9000HX Series processors, gamers can push their limits and experience extreme power and performance in top-of-the-line notebooks."

Jun Ouyang, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Consumer Segment at Lenovo, remarked, "At Lenovo, we're shaping the future of gaming by delivering innovative solutions from powerful high-performance laptops and towers to handheld devices. With AMD's cutting-edge Ryzen Z series processors, we're pushing the boundaries of what handheld gaming devices can achieve."

The new processors and systems are expected to become available starting the first quarter of 2025, signalling a year with significant advancements in gaming and AI processing capabilities by AMD.
