FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple has confirmed the rumour it will hold a media event on Tuesday, October 4 at its campus in Cupertino, California, sending out invitations to the press with the phrase, ‘Let's talk iPhone'.

The event will take place at 10am Pacific Time, which is 6am here on the following day.

Commentators have speculated attendees will be shown two models, an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S. This rumour was given fuel late last week when Apple board member, Al Gore, mentioned ‘new iPhones coming out next month' in an off-the-cuff remark during a speech on environmental issues.

Apple is reported to be denying employees leave in the second week of October, specifically October 9 to 12, as well as 14 - 15, suggesting whatever is shown on the 4th will be released in the week following.
