FYI, this story is more than a year old

Last week Apple was being questioned about its prices, now HP is under the gun for its new tablet, the TouchPad.

The tablet is to go on sale this month at $799 for a 16-Gigabyte version and $949 for the 32-Gigabyte model.

Stuff has questioned HP about these prices, saying the units sell in America for US$499 and $599, or around NZ$570 and $690.

The findings follow a similar comparison of Apple's pricing last week.

The current exchange rate between New Zealand and America is inflating pricing discrepancies, and HP's Paul Boshoff says there are other factors to consider such as GST, freight, economies of scale and retail channel costs.

The TouchPad is to go on sale in New Zealand on August 15. Go here to read our story.
