Microsoft pulls cringeworthy Apple ad… Well, almost
"Are these leaked videos from a top-secret iPhone strategy meeting at Apple?"
That's what they were asking over in Redmond earlier this week, hours before Microsoft pulled an anti-Apple advert.
The unusual advert, posted on the company's Windows Phone YouTube channel was titled "A Fly on the Wall in Cupertino?"
In a not-so-subtle attempt to poke fun at Apple's new double iPhone release, Microsoft claimed the campaign "features two hapless Apple employees desperately try to impress the higher-ups with the latest versions of the iPhone."
Until the video was removed, that is.
In what appears to be the back of Apple's design chief Jony Ive's head, and bizarrely Steve Jobs at one point, two executives pitch ideas for the new smartphone release.
"We're gonna give the people what they want, we're giving them the finger…print – fingerprint Touch ID.
"We made you an iPhone that is the colour gold, because think about it, everybody loves gold – pirates, leprechauns…"
Closing with #timetoswitch, following the release, Microsoft issued a statement via The Next Web to apologise for the video.
"The video was intended to be a light-hearted poke at our friends from Cupertino. But it was off the mark, and we've decided to pull it down."
Terrible more like.
