Orcon loses years of customer emails

Fri, 29th Oct 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Orcon has lost the email accounts of 266 of its customers overnight due to what the firm calls an email outage.

A statement from the company reads:

“Orcon experienced an email outage last night. Unfortunately the outage resulted in 266 accounts losing their emails. Our engineers here are working hard to retrieve this mail, however efforts have been unsuccessful so far.  The remainder of Orcons 200,000+ mail accounts are unaffected. We will update affected customers by the end of the day.”

Customers have reportedly been told that their emails won't be restored.

Through Twitter Orcon explained, "The outage resulted in 266 people losing their emails. Engineers here are working to understand whether or not we can retrieve it."

We've contacted the company for an update.

This isn’t the first time Orcon has reported a major outage this month. On October 5th Orcon experienced a major outage due to a power issue with a third-party vendor in the early hours of the morning.
