Sony unveils WF-C510 wireless earbuds with ergonomic design
Sony has announced the release of its latest product, the WF-C510 truly wireless earbuds. These new earbuds aim to deliver Sony's renowned sound quality in a more compact and ergonomically designed form. They are designed to provide a comfortable fit, with special attention to the shape and size of different ears, making them suitable for extended use throughout the day.
According to Sony, the WF-C510 earbuds are their smallest closed-type earbuds to date. Leveraging decades of ear shape data and ear sensitivity evaluations, the earbuds feature an ergonomic design that performs well in terms of both comfort and fit. "We've designed the WF-C510 utilising extensive ear shape data collated since introducing the world's first in-ear headphones in 1982, as well as evaluation of the sensitivity of various types of ears, to ensure an ideal shape that is comfortable for many people," Sony stated.
The earbuds also come equipped with a matte finish and a rounded design to further enhance comfort. They also feature a flat and wider surface button for ease of use, which allows users to control their music without any interruptions. Featuring an IPX4 water resistance rating, the earbuds are splash and sweat resistant, making them suitable for various everyday activities.
Battery life appears to be a strong point for the WF-C510s. Sony claims the earbuds can last up to 11 hours on a single charge. Moreover, a quick five-minute charge can provide an additional 60 minutes of listening time. The compact and cylindrical charging case is thinner compared to previous models, which makes it more convenient to carry around, fitting easily into pockets or bags.
The earbuds offer various customisation options, including four different colour choices: blue, yellow, black, and white. Users can also personalise their listening experience using the Sony | Headphones Connect app. "No matter what genre you are into, listen to music how it is meant to be listened to with custom EQ, giving you the option to customise your sound for every music preference," Sony noted.
Sound quality is another focal point, with the inclusion of the Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) to ensure high-quality sound output. This technology works by upscaling compressed audio files to deliver a more authentic listening experience. Users can also enjoy immersive spatial audio with the 360 Reality Audio feature.
The WF-C510 are designed for everyday convenience with features such as Sony's Multipoint Connection, which allows the earbuds to connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. Additionally, the Ambient Sound Mode enables users to hear their surroundings while listening to music. The "Voice Focus" function captures human voices while suppressing background noise.
These earbuds also support Spotify Tap, allowing users to start playing their tunes with a few simple taps. The pairing process is streamlined with Fast Pair and Swift Pair features. Users can also choose to use either earbud independently, which is particularly useful for multitasking.
Sony has made efforts to incorporate environmentally friendly elements into the WF-C510. Both the earbuds and their case are partially made from recycled plastic, and the packaging is entirely plastic-free, reflecting Sony's commitment to sustainability.
Available in New Zealand from October 2024, the WF-C510 is priced at NZD $149.95. The earbuds aim to offer high-quality sound and comfort in a compact form, with a range of features designed to enhance the user experience.
