The wait is over as Apple meets iPhone 5S demand
Following a record-breaking start to Apple's iPhone 5S release, it now appears demand has finally been met for Cupertino's flagship smartphone.
Back in September, CEO Tim Cook claimed demand for iPhone 5S exceeded the initial supply, citing it as the company's "best iPhone launch yet."
“This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales,” Cook said.
“The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5S, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”
But following a hectic few months, in which demand for Apple's lower-end smartphone, the iPhone 5C, lowered somewhat, it seems Cupertino has eventually caught up.
"We believe Apple has caught up to demand, which we had expected ahead of the core holiday period," says Gene Munster from research firm Piper Jaffray.
"In reflecting on the supply for the 5S product launch overall, we believe that net-net Apple has done a better job in supplying stores with phones proportional to demand."
That said, the estimated wait time for the new device still remains at 3-5 business days on the official Apple Online Store, implying that customers could still be disappointed before the xmas break.
Yet anything is an improvement from late September, when just 24 hours following the launch, Apple had sold out its entire September iPhone 5S stock, leading to on street fighting in California.
