Facebook working on group buying feature

Thu, 27th Jan 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Forbes is reporting that Facebook will soon start testing a new feature called ‘Buy With Friends’ that would allow users share purchases in their Facebook update stream with friends on the social network.

The feature is said to let one user ‘unlock’ a deal and then share that same deal or discount with friends who can take advantage of the fact that it’s already been unlocked.

Buy With Friends is currently being tested in the context of social games and virtual goods. Whether or not it will be expanded to rival the likes of numerous ‘daily deal’ websites remains to be seen.

It’s also been revealed that Facebook is rolling out a new ad platform that will reportedly allow advertisers to turn your status updates into promoted content.

By checking into a certain location or liking a brand, companies can turn that status into one of those “sponsored story” ads.

Apparently you can’t opt out...
