By Catherine Knowles

Apple has introduced its new 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display.

The new iMac by Apple has been released, and the Retina 5K display features 14.7 million pixels which is the world’s highest resolution display.

“Thirty years after the first Mac changed the world, the new iMac with Retina 5K display running OS X Yosemite is the most insanely great Mac we have ever made,” says Phillip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “With a breathtaking 14.7 million pixel display, faster CPU and graphics, Fusion Drive, and Thunderbolt 2, it’s the most beautiful and powerful iMac ever.”

The iMac with Retina 5K display has a resolution of 5120 x 2880, four times the amount of pixels than the standard 27-inch iMac and 67 percent more pixels than a 4K display. The oxide TFT-based panel has been specifically designed and manufactured to display a vivid image.

Final Cut Pro X users can view 4K video at full size while also having room for assets and editing tools.

The Apple designed timing controller (TCON) has four times the bandwidth and drives the pixels.

Highly efficient LEDs and organic passivation help to improve image quality and reduce power consumption by 30 percent. The display is calibrated using three state of the art spectroradiometers for precise and accurate colour.

This is also a powerful computer. It has a 3.5 CHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost and can be configured with a 4 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 Processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 4.4 GHz.

The new iMac comes with AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics and delivers up to 3.5 teraflops of computer power – the most powerful graphics ever offered on an iMac.

For the first time, the iMac comes with standard 8GB 1TB Fusion Drive. Furthermore, with two Thunderbolt 2 ports that deliver up to 20Gbps each, the iMac has twice the bandwidth of the previous generation.

Every computer comes with OS X Yosemite, powerful new apps, a new modern look and continuity features so users can connect Mac and iOS devices. iMovie, GarageBand and iWork apps come free with the iMac and iWork has been redesigned to support iCloud Drive and has new features and a new look.

The iMac with Retina 5K display begins shipping today, starting at $3,699. To find out more, click here.
