Internet pioneers announce new social music service

Niklas Zennström, founder of voice-over-internet calling service Skype and Janus Friis, founder of file sharing application Kazaa have announced the soon-to-be-launched service, named Rdio. Rdio will offer users unlimited access to a database of over five million songs for a monthly fee ($US9.99), and allow them to access content over any web browser or smartphone. The service is currently available on Apple's iPhones and Blackberrys with development of an app for Android phones underway. Rdio has secured a deal with music industry giants such as EMI Music, Sony, Universal and Warner Music, among others.
