Maxnet pulls Fyx 'global mode'
Mon, 14th May 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Maxnet sub-brand Fyx has abruptly withdrawn its ‘global mode' service from the market, just days after it was first launched.

The service allowed users to bypass regional restrictions in order to access overseas content, prompting many to question its legality when it launched on Tuesday.

The company's ‘chief Fyx-er', Andrew Schick, issued a statement late on Friday saying the service was being pulled ‘for the time being', and that the decision to pull the service was not a response to legal concerns.

"While legal opinions have supported Fyx's global mode under New Zealand law, there are matters that require further consideration before continuing the service,” Schick says.

"Fyx sincerely apologises to our customers and the New Zealand internet community for putting a halt to ‘global mode'.

Customers can still subscribe to Fyx for $30.30 per month, plus an additional $0.30 per GB of data.
