New chips for MacBook Pro range
Apple has quietly upgraded the chips in its MacBook Pro lineup, offering performance improvements across the range of devices.
At the lower end, the 13-inch model will now come with either 2.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 ($1999) or 2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 ($2499) processors.
The 15-inch device will be offered with 2.2GHz ($2999) or 2.4GHz ($3799) quad-core Intel Core i7 processors, the latter of which will also be used in the 17-inch model ($4199).
In both the 13-inch and 15-inch versions, the cheaper of the models comes with 500GB of storage space, while the pricier configurations – including the 17-inch model – come with 750GB.
Graphics cards in the larger models have been upgraded as well, with the cheaper 15-inch version gaining its bigger brothers’ AMD Radeon HD 6750M cards (now with 512MB of memory, up from 256MB), and the top two versions upgrading to 6770M cards (still with 1GB of memory).
