NZMac and NZiPhone sites to close - Updated
Mon, 24th Jan 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

After eight years of running NZMac.com and more recently NZiPhone.com, the site's owner Philip Roy today announced that both sites will close on March 1st, 2011.

Roy puts the closure down to being unable to find a buyer for the sites. The closure comes hot on the heals of Roy withdrawing the websites from the Apple Store - iTunes affiliates schemes in late October 2010.

"The thing that I will take the most away from the eight years runningthe sites is that it has allowed me to interact with a fantastic Maccommunity in New Zealand and overseas. I want to take this opportunityto thank you all for your support and use of the site over the years," said Roy.

UPDATED - Roy is telling users of the site that "I will be keeping ownership of the domain names and I will not be passing on the user/subscriber list to any third party." But TechDay understands that the websites including databases are being actively sold to the highest bidder.

Us folks at TechDay will be taking up the mantle, by finally launching our weekly MacGuide email newsletters. The service is completely free. To get yourself on the distribution list login or register for TechDay.com and turn on your email newsletter subscription to MacGuide.

We want to extend our best wishes to Philip Roy and look forward to servicing those interested in Mac and iOS news with our new MacGuide newsletter.
