Cost of .nz domain names about to get a lot cheaper

Mon, 28th Jun 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The New Zealand Domain Name registry is reducing the wholesale domain name fee for .nz domain names by 16% as of the 1st of July.

This reduces the annual wholesale fee for the 400,000 active .nz domains from $18 to $15 per domain.

Domains4Less Marketing Manager Robin Dickie says that although not obligated to pass on the reduction to customers Domains4Less will be leading the way and passing on the entire reduction from Tuesday 29th June to its 18,000 customers. This will bring the retail price of a .nz Domain down to $19.95 from the current $22.95.

"Whilst there has not been a huge demand for a price drop at a wholesale level many consumers; some of whom own hundreds of domains are likely to reap the benefits of this increasingly competitive industry where market share is fiercely contested amongst domain registrars." he says.

The last fee drop was in 2007, and is reviewed annually by the independent regulator, The Domain Name Commission.
