i-PRO launches AI-enabled corner camera for correctional facilities

Mon, 8th Jul 2024

i-PRO has announced the launch of its new AI-enabled Corner Camera, designed specifically to endure the challenging conditions of correctional facilities. The company highlights that the camera, which is built in Japan, features a stainless-steel structure and boasts the smallest form factor in its range. The device is noted for its impressive durability, with an IK11+ 70 Joule impact rating, substantially higher than the common IK10 (20 Joule) rating found in similar products.

"The i-PRO Corner Camera represents a new standard for high-security environments, providing unmatched reliability and advanced AI-powered analytics all within the most compact form factor," stated Gerard Figols, Chief Product Officer at i-PRO. "With its IK11+ 70J rating, it is clearly the most shock-resistant corner mount surveillance camera in the industry today."

The camera offers a wide-angle view of 131 degrees horizontally and 95 degrees vertically, effectively limiting blind spots and ensuring comprehensive room coverage. It includes a sensor capable of 5-degree yaw and tilt adjustments, allowing for adaptability in various installation scenarios. Additionally, the camera features an invisible IR-LED that illuminates up to 15 metres using a 940nm wavelength, along with an anti-tamper alarm system that alerts operators if the device is struck or its case is tampered with.

Measuring 197x139x126 mm, the camera is compact yet effective, maintaining image clarity with a dynamic range of 132 dB. Figols further praised the camera’s capabilities, noting, "The engineers at i-PRO have done it again. When you factor in the additional license-free AI applications, it’s truly an industry-leading camera." He also emphasised the camera's anti-ligature design, which aims to prevent self-harm incidents and resist forceful removal attempts.

The AI-powered capabilities of the camera allow it to support up to three free i-PRO AI applications simultaneously. These include AI Video Motion Detection, Privacy Guard, and People Detection. To ensure the privacy of individuals in monitored spaces, i-PRO's AI Privacy Guard feature can automatically blur faces or entire bodies, thereby creating a redacted video stream. The camera's built-in microphone also enhances its functionality with AI-based sound detection, which can identify sounds such as yelling and breaking glass.

In terms of cybersecurity, the vandal-proof camera includes a secure boot feature and is compliant with the FIPS 140-2 level 3 standard, assuring users of its robustness against cyber threats.

The new corner camera is scheduled to be available in September 2024 through i-PRO's extensive network of resellers worldwide.
