After a few hiccups, News Corp's digital newspaper, dubbed The Daily, will launch on iPad in the next two weeks, costing US$0.99 per week.

News Corp executive James Murdoch (son of Rupert) unveiled the launch plans at a media conference in Munich, Germany.

"It should be launching in the next two weeks, I hope," he said, adding that subscriber numbers would be released in about six weeks.

"Sure enough, our audience has contracted dramatically but the engagement of the audience is very strong, our advertisers are happy," Murdoch said.

When asked if the firm had similar plans for Britain's best-selling daily tabloid, The Sun, Murdoch said readers may be asked to pay for some content, while keeping most of the online newspaper available for free.

"I think there's a real question for the big, popular papers about how they tackle this. We have to be very cautious."
