Official: Apple to appoint additional distributor
The Channel reported in early September that changes to the Apple distribution model in New Zealand would be made on October 1st.
Renaissance today released a statement saying that Apple will appoint an additional distributor from October 1st.
The decision won’t affect the current relationship and the distribution agreement “continues unchanged” said the company.
Richard Webb, Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance Group, explained, “We have a strong and productive relationship with Apple and our performance in the market has resulted in quarter on quarter market share improvements over the past year.”
Renaissance hasn’t been the exclusive distributor for Apple since 2006.
“We have not been an exclusive distributor for Apple since 2006, so we do not expect this latest development to significantly impact on our business,” continued Webb. “Renaissance will continue to compete in the New Zealand marketplace. We believe in choice and competition and our profitable diversification along with our exciting plans for the future, reflect how we are well-positioned for the new plans Apple has to harmonise its distribution strategy in New Zealand.”
One additional distributor heavily rumoured to get the Apple deal is Ingram Micro.
