Pokémon craze hits NZ tourism: Pikachu goes bungy jumping
The Pokémon craze continues to reach new heights, with AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand jumping on the bandwagon.
How so? In the form of a life- sized version of Pokémon favourite Pikachu leaping off the AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand Kawarau Bridge in Queenstown yesterday.
AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand marketing manager Mike Voyce says the company decided that if Pokémon Go was in New Zealand, then one of the characters needed to experience New Zealand's 'most iconic tourist attraction'.
"The Kawarau Bridge is the world home of bungy so what better place for a Pokémon to experience the thrill that is bungy jumping than there," he says.
"It was a bit of fun for crew and visitors to the site enjoyed the spectacle as a seven foot bright yellow character hurtled off the bridge.
Voyce says the Pikachu suit was in hot demand with crew keen to have their turn to jump in it.
