FYI, this story is more than a year old

At an event in Auckland yesterday Sky unveiled plans to finally launch its online TV service, iSky, in New Zealand.

The new service allows Sky customers to access online content whenever they want via a computer.

Sky Director of Sports Content and New Media, Richard Last, said that improvements in New Zealand's broadband infrastructure, and an interest from subscribers in having content delivered via the internet, meant that the time was now right to launch the service.

Six telecommunications companies have pledged unmetered access to iSky to its customers.

While Last says he's working to bring other telcos on board to offer unmetered access, ones confirmed for launch are Orcon, Slingshot, Xnet, Farmside, Vodafone and Woosh.

There are also plans to offer the service on game consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

An iSky beta is expected to go live in the next few weeks.
