Google’s contender to Apple’s overwhelmingly popular iPhone – the Nexus One – has finally been unveiled at a recent presentation in Mountain View in California.

The device, manufactured by the HTC Corporation, runs Google’s Android mobile operating system. While the iPhone made integrated use of some of Google’s services (such as its search and map navigation services), certain services withheld from that device will be utilized in the Nexus One. Most notably, Google Voice plays a strong role in the Nexus One, which allows strong voice-to-text transcription capabilities and voice input for GPS navigation.

The device boasts a 3.7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 800 x 480, front and rear microphones to enable noise-cancellation features, 512MB of RAM and 512MB of internal Flash storage, a 5MP camera with LED flash and digital zoom. The Nexus One supports Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and 802.11b/g/n wi-fi standards. An onboard microSD card slot will allow for up to 32GB of additional memory.

No details are available pertaining to a New Zealand release of the Nexus One at this time.
